What is a GTM Engineer?

What is a GTM Engineer?

A GTM Engineer is an operator who builds the technical and commercial systems behind modern revenue work. The role combines sales process, RevOps, automation, AI tooling, CRM architecture, and experiment design so a company can create pipeline and learn faster.

GTM Engineer, n.

The GTM Engineer is not simply a marketer with automation tools or a RevOps administrator with better prompts. The role sits where buyer data, sales motion, content, enrichment, routing, and feedback loops meet.

For post-PMF B2B companies, the GTM Engineer becomes useful when the old handoff between marketing, sales, and operations is too slow for the market. The job is to build the machine that lets a small team act with the surface area of a much larger one.

When this term matters

  • The team needs many personalized motions without many headcount additions.
  • CRM and enrichment data exist but do not drive action.
  • Sales, marketing, and RevOps are solving the same problem in separate tools.
